Good morning, everyone! I hope you enjoyed my movie suggestions yesterday. Though after thinking about it I should probably change the title to "7 Days of Scary-ish Movies". Today's suggestions will be no different... Movie #1 is...
The next movie is why I think I should change the post title to "Scary-ish". However it is one those movies as a child that caused me many hours of concern and worry looking at sitting Pomeranians. Gremlins (1984)Does this little guy look familiar? The first person to give me his name I will send a present! Now we all (who are over the age of 15), have seen this movie, we know the rules and even as children we watched in awe as this dumb ass teenager went ahead and did exactly what he wasn't supposed to do with a potentially dangerous adorable, cuddly, sweet little mogawi (translated from Cantonese as 'monster'). I don't know about you guys, but I would call the little green guy to the left a monster, but I sure as hell would not call Gizmo a monster, at least not an intentional one. So, if you have kids over 10 and they haven't seen this movie, this is the best time of year to show it to them. Just watch what they eat after midnight, you may end up with more of them then you could ever hope for. Happy watching today guys!! Talk to you tomorrow!!

Starting today I am setting up to post about 7 days of scary movies. I will post about 2 movies you can find on Netflix to watch this week as we build up to the bestest damn holiday on the planet! (Yes, bestest is a word. I say so. Quit arguing.) The first movie I would like to post about is... The Death Note (2017)This movie is based on Japanese manga created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The main gist of the story is a teenage boy comes in possession of a book, placed so by a demon death god named Ryuk. Ryuk teaches the boy to use the book to his own ends and desires. i'll leave the rest to you to figure out (not really hard). Though there is one thing I have to say about Ryuk... He is one Sexy AF demonic death god! (wink, wink) - BTW, here is a link to the Wiki page for The Death Note. Now that that is out of my system. It really is a pretty good movie all in all. Considering it is based on a Japanese comic book (shut up, its a damn comic book regardless of how many pages are in it or how much people are paid to 'create' it) and most foreign horror items are not when compared to the domestic trauma we like to dish out here. Ok...Movie #2 is... V/H/S, V/H/S/2 & V/H/S:ViralYes, I know, I know. It's actually 3 movies, but you have to understand. When I first came across V/H/S it was when I was looking at some new movies to watch. Perhaps even ones I had never seen or heard of before. Scrolling through, I came across this pic... Quite a looker, ain't she? You can see why I was intrigued and wanted to know more. Then I read the movie was a "found-footage" collection of short films. (Think Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity) Which turned me off to the idea of watching even the first movie, but trying to keep open minded, I started watching...
For some unnatural reason I was hooked. Five hours (or so) later, I found myself with dry, itchy eyes, a very numb ass and a drive to find out more about the movies and about the company responsible for their existence. I looked up the movies and found they were created by a Brad Miska and Bloody Disgusting. While I am still investigating them at this time what I have found is the website for Bloody Disgusting (click here) and that I am quite out of touch with the blood, guts and gore of the horror world and will have to dig in deeper than I thought I was capable. Hope, that you will enjoy watching along! Have a great Tuesday! See you tomorrow!! As I sit and write this post I am making the conscious effort to remind myself today is a day for sweet and tasty things, but... THE ASSHOLES WILL NOT STOP BUGGING THE PISS OUT OF ME!!!!! So, I have come to the decision that I am going to celebrate the sweet and tasty and the rest of them can fuck off!! Here goes... Another wonderful recipe from the Brown Eyed Baker!! This may not be the traditional recipe (she changes out the sponge cake for traditional yellow cake and the dark chocolate glaze for a thicker ganache), but it is yummy none-the-less! Sorry I have no pictures to share of the one I made, but my boys made it disappear faster than I could get my camera up on my phone! If you want to try the recipe, click here. If you manage to get pics, please feel free to share! Happy Monday! Months ago, I was speaking to an author friend of mine about an idea they had received from an author friend of theirs about postings used to build stories to a climax. With this in mind, I have told you all I would begin sharing parts of one of the stories I am working on.
This is how it will work... Sundays (starting next Sunday), I will post a page of the untitled story I am working on. (I will take it on honor, anyone reading this will not steal my story for themselves.) Mondays - Thursdays and Saturdays will be average days (unless I change my mind). I will post what suits me for the moment. Fridays, I will post 2 sentences of the next section of the story. If you want you are welcome to offer ideas, comments, critiques, etc. Now I know this time of year (all the way back to September), the markets become flooded with "Holiday" flavors. More specifically, pumpkin spice, pumpkin pie spice, pumpkin and apple cider flavored everything, from cookies and cakes to my beloved coffee.
When it comes to flavored items (foods and drinks), I am generally open-minded (at least once). I will try it and if I don't like it I may try it again in a few years. (This is a trend my hubs hasn't quite understood about me. Tough.) Though I would like to comment on a few of the Limited Holiday Flavors. 1. Berres Brothers Coffee (Watertown, WI) I have tried many of Berres Brothers Coffees over the years. Most likely because they make these little (quite affordable) 1.5 oz "One Pot" bags. They are just big enough for 1 - 12 cup pot of coffee (or if you are like me and have a k-cup maker you get about 9 cups) to sample the flavor before committing to a 12 oz bag (JIC, the flavor is not good). This year they are offering (* = the flavors I have tried, so far): Butterscotch Candy Corn* Cranberry Cream* Spiced Apple Packer Perc* Pumpkin Caramel* Pumpkin Pie Now mind you this is just their seasonal listing (off their website) this is definitely not an exhaustive listing of their current flavorings. Not by any means. They actually offer a few flavors all year round (that I can find in the stores) which are fabulous (Highlander Grogg and Southern Pecan, to name a few). However, if you are a coffee nut like me they are definitely worth the try. 2. Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats Here is a link to an article I found reporting about the newest Pumpkin Pie-flavored treats Courtesy of my son, I have tried these. My opinion is simple, if you're going to have something Pumpkin Pie flavored you should be able to taste the pumpkin more. The pie spice is right on; nice and warm tasting, but the pumpkin is so mild it gets lost. Would I try them again...as long as I don't have to spend my money on them. 3. Dunkin Donuts DD actually started their Fall campaign of flavors on August 28 nationwide. They have a few good offerings. I have tried their pumpkin macchiato and the maple pecan coffee. Both were good, but better hot versus iced. Even if you don't like coffee DD has some nifty designs for their donuts this month and some neat ideas for their food and donuts. BTW, the pumpkin munchkins are mega-nummy. 4. Cold Stone Creamery If ice cream is your thing and you don't mind spending for good stuff with lots of options (and I do mean LOTS of options), this wonderful company whose corporate office in is Arizona This year they have offered up 2 new flavors for this beauteous season...Pumpkin Cheesecake and Creme Brulee. Check out their press release, they give you an interesting concoction for their ice cream. They also tell you in their release, these flavors are only available until November 23, 2017. So, if you want them better get there quick. Now, there is no way in the world I could list all the specials currently running for this season, but here a few of my favorites to start with. I would love to here what your favorite Autumn flavors are (even if you think they're weird, told you I'd be about willing to try anything). Have a Happy Saturday everyone!! Happy 135th Birthday, |
Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce (Third Wednesday in October) "The Chamber of Commerce's primary objective is to strengthen local enterprises of all sizes and the best way to honor this organization is to use the services of local chamber businesses." - National Day Calendar In 1911, President Taft presented Congress with the idea of an overall organization to address and represent the issues and concerns of US businesses. The following year, 1912, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce was formed. (read details here) To observe this holiday, volunteer for an event at your local chamber. Medical Assistants Recognition Day
(On Wednesday of Third Full Week in October)
Anyone who has been to the doctor, a clinic, a hospital, a hospice home or rehabilitation facility has seen the hardest working people in these buildings are the medical assistants. These busy, flitting people are health professionals who are there to be support staff for the staff on duty. Their duties are not limited to just clinical or administrative duties, but their roles are varied. Though this will depend on quite a few factors (i.e. facility size, certification requirements, the state and the laws affected by the work site.
Today take time to thank a medical assistant for their hard work and dedication! Take a selfie with someone who fights for the health of others! Share on social media. #MedicalAssistantsRecognitionDay

Samhain is almost here!!!
(Pronounced like you are calling a pig home...Sow In)
With about 2 weeks (at the time of this writing) before Samhain is here!! I am writing to share some of the joy and love I have for this my favorite Sabbat.
Since my childhood (even before I recognized Samhain), I had the natural inclination to take the time for connecting with the earth and my ancestry. It was with special timing and intent each year i would go into the woods behind my parent's home and sit down in the leaves. I would make offerings of water and fruit to the land and my ancestors for blessings and protection through the next year. (I have always felt my year started on October 31.) With this child's enthusiastic desire to connect and my many years of learning, teaching and practicing I have found that Samhain is definitely more than funny/scary/creative costumes and bags of candy (don't get me wrong, I still love these parts, too), but has become a rooted and impassioned part of my existence.

Because I'm Craft-y!!
In observance of this wonderful Sabbat, I am going to share a couple things I love to do every year.
I am going to share a craft, a recipe and a spell/rite. Let me know if you try them! I'd love to see pics!

The night before Samhain, my family and I will have a bonfire. What I will do while the 'men-folk' are prepping the fire, I will make a cheesecloth bundle of herbs (geared towards banishing) and grab my little cast iron cauldron on my way outside. I set the cauldron just on the edge of the fire with the cheesecloth bundle inside.
This year the herbs I'm going to use are: anise seed, clove, dragons blood, garlic and some lavender. (All from my garden or donated by friends.)
My instructions would look like this...
Bundle herbs of choice in a cheesecloth, place in fire safe container.
Place container in fire (or place charcoal pellet and light while tying bundle and place bundle on top).
Once all herbs are burnt to ash, carefully remove from heat source.
When the container is safe to handle (approximately 30 minutes, depending on vessel), scrape all ashes together into a mortar.
Place salt in the ashes in a 2-to-1 ratio salt to ash.
Using the pestle and concentrating all of your banishing intent/energy, grind ash and salt into a fine mix.
Move mix into a clean jar. Mark bottle with contents and date.
Use: Spells and rituals involving banishment magick, removal of hexes/jinxes, evil eye protection, and protection against most negative energy.

My favorite Samhain recipe is one I came across when I was working as a PCW many, many years ago. I make the recipe every year and think of the man I had worked for in that time. Even now, I kind of miss talking to him. Oh, well. Here's the recipe....
Harvest Brunch
Ingredients
1 sm (3#) pumpkin ½ t salt ¼ t pepper
1 # mild/hot bulk pork sausage 1 T vegetable oil 1 c celery, chopped
1/3 c onion, chopped 1 c mushrooms, sliced 1 egg, beaten
½ c sour cream 1/3 c Parmesan, grated Parsley, for garnish
Directions
Cut top off of pumpkin (like for carving) and scoop out pulp and seeds. Discard pulp (save seeds for roasting). Sprinkle inside with salt and pepper.
Place pumpkin, cut side down, in a large baking dish filled with 1" water. Bake at 350*F, uncovered for about an hour or until just fork tender. Turn pumpkin right side up in water.
While baking:
Brown sausage in skillet; drain well. Sauté celery and onion in oil until tender; add mushrooms; cook 2 mins. Remove from heat. Combine egg, sour cream, and cheese in a large bowl; slowly add meat and veggies to bowl (so you don't cook the egg).
Pour into pumpkin; Return to oven for 25 minutes or until pumpkin is cooked through. Allow to rest for about 15 minutes.
Quarter pumpkin from top (looking down on a big X). Garnish with parsley. Enjoy!

I found this prayer a few years ago and it has made its way into my regular rotation. I believe I got it from an online coven (Cata or Catta, I think).
I hope you all enjoy my sharing and starting next week I will be sharing snippets of the story I am currently working on.
Keep your eyes out!!
Happy Tuesday!!

This day is dedicated to the decluttering of our virtual desktops
(though I see nothing wrong with taking care of your actual desktop at the same time.)
Think back to when your computer was new, clean and organized,
now let's dive in and take the time to straighten it up.
National Day Calendar shares the suggested observance...
"How to Observe National Virtual Desktop Decluttering Day.
Neaten up your desktop by deleting unneeded items and sorting the rest into folders.
Use #CleanYourVirtualDesktopDay to post on social media"
The history of this holiday appears to come from the Canada!
The Personal Computer Museum (Brantford, ON) created the unofficial holiday encouraging others to organize
their desktops and the files on their computers.
The holiday was first celebrated in October 2010.

Other Holidays Happening Today...
National Liqueur Day
We all have our favorite liqueurs (i.e. Bailey's, Kahlua, Grand Marnier, Jagermeister, etc.),
but not many of us know a liqueur is a distilled liquor flavored
with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts, sweetened then bottled.
To observe this holiday, go out for a drink with friends. (Please, don't drink and drive. Drink responsibly.)

National Dictionary Day
Okay, this one is new to me, but I like the idea of celebrating the English language.
To observe this holiday, open a dictionary and learn a new word or two.

National Feral Cat Day
Trap-Alter-Return is the best option for these sweet, but fiercely independent souls.
For all of us cat lovers!! This holiday was initiated by the Alley Cat Allies in 2001
A feral cat is the result of a domesticated cat being abandoned or lost. The babies of these abandoned/lost family members, usually are cats who are born outdoors and never have much (if any) human contact.
To observe this holiday, donate to an organization responsible for T.A.R. (Trap-Alter-Return) and other cares for local ferals. Click here for ideas.

Department Store Day
Whether we agree or not, the definition of a department store is simply stated as.
"A department store is a retail establishment offering a wide range of consumer goods in different product categories known as "departments".
These stores can be one of many in a chain (Walmart, Kmart, Shopko, etc,) or it can be an independent location (i.e. Gregory's, Woolworth, Benjamin Franklin, etc.)
To observe this holiday, go shopping! (Duh!)

Boss' Day
In 1958, National Boss' Day was registered with the US Chamber of Commerce.
The woman who came up with the idea chose today because it was her boss'/father's birthday.
It was officially backed and proclaimed by the Illinois Governor at that time in 1962.
Then in 1979, Hallmark Cards decided to make some coin off the holiday by introducing Boss' Day cards into their repertoire.

Author
I have spent quite a few years writing short stories that never quite fit into the 'normal' genre. When I came across the different erotica genres I was overjoyed. I had found my writing family. I hope that everyone enjoys what I've written. Please feel free to send me a comment/suggestion good/bad/indifferent. I appreciate all feedback! Bright Blessings!
